Detective Sergeant McCafferty was one of the early comers. He said he was looking for the body of Mrs. Susanna Toth, the janitress of the house at 103 East 75th Street, where McCafferty lived. He said that Mrs. Toth, with her daughter, Mrs. Emily Herman of 410 5th Street, and Mrs Herman's two children Elsa and George, had been passengers on the Slocum. He found the body of Mrs. Toth, but could not get any track of Mrs. Herman or the children.
