When seventeen years she came to the United States with her mother, after her father's death, to join her brother Carl, Jr., and sisters that had come before to Sharon. The sisters were the late Mrs. William Meyers, Belvidere, and Mrs. Lena Long, Walworth.

On April 22, 1894, she was married at Walworth to Albert T. Smith, and the couple located on a farm north of Capron which continued to be their home until they moved to Capron in 1929. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1944. Six years later Mr. Smith died. On son died in 1910.

The surviving children are Mrs. Alice Lloyd and Verne Smith, Capron; Floyd Smith, Cherry Valley; and Mrs. Vera Wolters, Crystal Lake. There are eleven grandchildren, and twenty-five great grandchildren.

Rev. Ralph Totten, pastor of the church to which she belonged, and Rev. E. G. Burtness, who had lived next door to Mrs. Smith for over twenty years and was a warm friend, shared in the conduct of the funeral service Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in Capron. Mrs. Fay Robinson presided at the organ, and Mrs. Donald Gesell and Mrs. Carl Ritter sang "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."

There was a profusion of floral offering. Bearers were grandsons--Robert Wise, Crystal Lake; Harold Nordeen, Belvidere; Lyle Smith, Rockford; Merle Smith, Capron; and Russell and Raymond Lloyd, Harvard. Burial was in the Capron Cemetery.
