Veronica "Verne" R. Barker, 95, of Monessen, died Friday, April 27, 2012, in St. Clair Hospital. She was born in Lowber on Jan. 7, 1917, the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Sabol Meluck. She was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1935 graduate of Monessen High School. Mrs. Barker had worked as a waitress at the former Johnson's restaurant in Monessen for many years, and was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. She was an avid golfer who loved to play the game and watch golf tournaments on television. She is survived by three grandchildren, Kathie Barker, of Bridgeville, Beth (Alan) Silko, of South Fayette Township, and James V. (Jackie) Barker, of West Chester, Pa.; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Joey, Adam and Tommy Silko, Erin and Eily Barker and Ryan Moore; a brother, Michael (Clara) Meluck, of Pittsburgh; a sister, Gertrude Blasko, of Charleroi; and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Barker Sr.; a son, James Barker Jr.; eight sisters, Mary Fanala, Elizabeth Feehan, Anna Meluck, Julia Petey, Sophia Pavlik, Bertha Tyburski, Margaret Meluck and Irene Mosco; and two brothers, John and Stephen Meluck. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 9 a.m. in Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 618 Knox Ave., Monessen, with Father Michael Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. Arrangements entrusted to DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen.
