Jean Marie Peters Atchisson passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on December 18, 2022 with her family by her side. She died at Springfield Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Born November 1, 1940 to Clarence, Sr. and Rose Marie DeVos Peters. Jean was a lifetime resident of Springfield, Illinois. She graduated from Lanphier High School in 1959. On June 11, 1966, she married Arthur D. Atchisson at Springfield Southern Baptist Church where they were members. She retired from the State of Illinois.
Jean was predeceased in death by her husband, parents and a brother Clarence Peters, Jr.
Known for her gentle manner and loving smile Jean will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by two loving children and their spouses all of Springfield: Carol (James) Peak and Arthur (Holly) Atchisson. Four grandchildren (Sarah and Kayla Arthur and Joshua) will always remember their grandmother with great love in their hearts and cherish the special memories they made with her.
Friends can pay their respects to Jean at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home, 530 N. 5th St, Springfield on Tuesday December 27, 2022 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am with the funeral service immediately after. Jean will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield following the funeral service.
