James P. Wakefield Dies County Resident 77 years.
James Pinkney Wakefield, son of Charles and Louisa
(Johnson) Wakefield, was born in Howell County Missouri
and moved to Wayne Co. at the age of six weeks. He spent
his enter life here, until he was called to rest at his
home near Silva, November 9, 1950, at the age of 77 years,
7 months and 17 days.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. L.A. Davis and Rev.
Orla Parker was held at the New Prospect Church Sunday
afternoon, with music by the Silva quartette. Burial was
in the nearby cemetery. Pallbearers were Clecy and
Clyde Westmoreland, Bob and Donald Wakefield, Hensley
and Clarance DeSpain and Alvin Allen.
On September 2, 1897 he was united in marriage to Nancy
Jane Allen. To this union 11 children were born. One
son Winfred and one daughter Gloia preceding their father
in death.
He is survived by his wife, and the following children:
Grace Westmoreland of Patterson, Pearl DeSpain of Marquant,
Virgie Allen of Piedmont, Ira Wakefield of Silva, Iris
Bollinger of Silva, Junita Joy of Eureka Kansas, Chester
Wakefield, Loah Twidwell and Velda Schlater all of
Cahokia, Ill. He leaves 35 grandchildren and 23 great-
grandchildren.
Mr. Wakefield professed his faith in Christ a number of
years ago and joined with the New Prospect Baptist Church.
He was an excellent citizen and was known and loved by
all who knew him. He was a kindly father to a large family,
all of whom will miss him greatly.
