Charles L. Smith, 81, of 3125 E. Wallace Ave., died at 6:45 am yesterday in Decatur and Macon County Hospital. He had been a patient there three weeks.
A retired farmer, Mr Smith came here in 1924 . He had lived in Decatur since then except for a few years in Oconee.
He was born Aug. 20, 1874, in Oconee, a son of William and Elizabeth Smith. He married Sarah C. Morris, Oct. 11, 1894, in Oconee. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in October.
Mr. Smith went into the real estate business after retiring from farming.
He leaves his wife; a son, C. Edgar of Decatur; a half-brother, James Smith of Oconee; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to Brintlinger's Funeral Home where friends may call after 4 pm today. Services will be at 1:30 pm Tuesday in the Oconee Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oconee Cemetery.
