At the age of four she met her lifelong friend and went through school together at Delhi and married on June 20th, 1952 at Wellington, Texas. Out of this union there were 2 sons, Rodney Wayne Pope born November 25th, 1953 and Gary Kirvin Pope born June 27th, 1957. In 1972 she was given guardianship of Donnie Smith age 6. She was saved at the age of 14 at Delhi Baptist Church. After their marriage, at the age of 18, Ben and Jewel became the 10th grade class parents at Delhi school. In 1955 the family moved to Sayre, Oklahoma.
In 1962 Jewel and Ben bought the D-X stations until selling them in 1979. During those years she also kept books and drove the bobtail distributor truck delivering fuel to farmers and other stations for Heartpence Oil Company. After the sale of the business in 1979 and leaving her job with Heartpence Oil she went to work as a bookkeeper for Hutchinson Oil Company and worked until 1988 to stay home to be a care giver for her son, Gary. She was class parents for the class of 1975 for three years at Sayre and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Her hobbies included collecting dolls and making her home open to kids of the community, camping in their RV, playing card games and putting puzzles together. She loved playing and talking with her grandkids and great grandkids and other family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Rosealee; 3 sisters, Rose Alee, Myrl Louise, and Juanita Pearl; 4 brothers, Archie Carol, James Herchal, Ed Wesley, and Gail.
She is survived by her husband, Ben; 2 sons, Rodney Pope and wife, Ginger, Shawnee, OK and Gary Pope, Weatherford, OK; 2 grandchildren, Andy Pope and wife, Juila, Shawnee, OK and Brandi Thompson and husband, Matt, Sayre, OK; 4 great grandchildren, Makenzie and Maddox Thompson, Sayre, OK and Aubrey and Avery Pope, Shawnee, OK; 1 son by guardianship, Donnie Smith and daughters, Marlee and Millie, Sayre, OK; 3 brothers, Loyd McBane, Tillamook, OR, Wilford McBane and wife, Ralene, Oklahoma City, OK, and Weltha McBane and wife, Linda, Union City, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 15th, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Andy Pope and arrangements are under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West.
