MIGRATIONS/RESIDENCES: To New England with the Winthrop Fleet in 1630, age 10, with parents and
siblings Mary, 16, Isaac, 14, Elizabeth, 11, and Sarah 6 (or Hannah 2). They settled in Roxbury,
Massachusetts. Humphrey removed to Scituate by 1650, then to Hingham by 1669.1
PARENTAGE/FAMILY: Second surviving son of ten children of JOHN JOHNSON (GMB, II:1105-10; WF, 415-

and his first wife Mary Heath, sister of WILLIAM HEATH (GMB, II:901-04).3
His older brother,
ISAAC JOHNSON (EF)4
remained in Roxbury. Their oldest sister, Mary married ROGER MOWRY
(GMB, II:1315-16). The will of John Johnson, dated 30 September 1659 directs that his estate be equally
divided among his five children, but only names his eldest son Isaac and son-in-law Robert Pepper. He
bequeaths to "my two grandchildren who have lived with me, Elizabeth Johnson and Mehittabel Johnson,
each of them £5 this to be paide them one yeare after my decease.5

PARENTAGE/FAMILY: Eldest child and daughter of William and Margaret (—) Cheney, who were in
Roxbury by 1639 with their four eldest children. Her sister Margaret married THOMAS
HASTINGS (GM2, III:235-40) as his second wife. The will of William Cheney, dated 30 April
1667, left to his daughter Ellin "£10 to be paid…out of my stock" and one fourth of one half of the
residue of the estate.9

Seargent Humphrey came from England with his father, Captain John. "He was a capable man in town affairs and often employed in public business. He had an uncommon inclination to lawsuits. And few men have left on the records of the court, so many evidences of his litigeous disposition". He settled in Scituate, Mass., and latter was from Hingham, Mass., where he was an Innkeeper. He was a member of his brother's company in the Narragansett Expedition. He was an original donor of the free school. His farm house in Scituate, was in later years owned by Joshua Lincoln into whose family there was much intermarying.

Humphry Johnson married first 20 Mar 1643 Roxbury, MA to Eleanor "Ellen" Cheney (born 1626ish England) and the settled first at Roxbury, MA and then at Scituate, MA and then at Hingham, MA and raised 11 children together. Eleanor's death date is not known - their last child was born in 1668 at Hingham, MA.

Widower Humphrey Johnson married second 06 Dec 1675 at Hingham, MA to widow Abigail Stansfield May and they lived at Hingham, MA and had 3 children together there.
