She was the daughter of the late Lonnie Walker and Bessie Mae Wilson Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Neal Raeford Dawkins; three brothers, Lee Buchanan, Morgan Buchanan, and Curtis Buchanan; and five sisters, Helen Buchanan Poe, Nellie Buchanan Thomas, Shirley Buchanan, Vivian Buchanan Thomas, and Pat Buchanan Worrell. She was survived by two daughters, Tonya Dawkins Godfrey (William) and Rhonda Dawkins Johnson (Kevin); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, LaVerne Buchanan Bowling.
