Her father was with the 65th Regiment of Foot. The 65th left Gravesend in Sep 1845 as guards on a convict ship to Tasmania. He took his leave of the 65th in NZ in 1849
* At the age of 15 Helen apparently had a son, Henry Doughty, but his registration not found to date. After his death in 1902 his probate was granted to two of Helen's brothers who were executors of his will. Maybe he was brought up by her parents and was treated as their brother? At the age of 17/18, Helen married Johan 'John' Aagaard (1843-1908) at her father's home in Mount Pleasant, Rangitikei on 18 Feb 1869
Johan was born 26 Sep 1843 in Hillested, a village in Denmark.
Helen & Johan then travelled to Denmark
where they had 2 children in Hansted, Maribo County, south Denmark

. Charlotte died aged 3 in Orslev, 11 July 1876, when she fell into a mud hole & drowned
1875 - 1956 Mechal Casper Aagaard
. Mechal returned to NZ with his mother
On 17 July 1880 Helen & Johan requested a separation. He states he is a Lieutenant, Customs Assistant, Beach Controller of Hellested, Maribo County. Johan stays in Lokken and lives with his girlfriend, Helen stays with Johan's brother at Norreskovgard, near Vordingborg.
In the divorce case, in Hjorring County, 1 Nov 1883, Johan states that Helen (born in Australia) has gone back to New Zealand
* although her birth in NZ is not on BDM, Helen's father was here from at least 1849, as above, but of course possible she was born Australia. Her life is still being researched
Johan remarried 16 Jan 1885 in Tversted, to Alberte Nikoline Nielsen, (Nicoline Albertine Nielsen on the marriage request) they had had a son Albert in 1881. Johan had to get royal permission to marry having lived with the bride while separated from his first wife. They had further children. He died at Gloslunde, Dannemare, on 19 Jan 1908 aged 64
