December 20, 1862: Davis, age 32, enlisted in Company "F" of the 4th Regiment of the Tennessee Cavalry at Washington, Tennessee, for a term of 3 years.

December 22, 1862: Davis captured by the enemy near Grassy Cove, Tennessee, and taken to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he was held until about June 1, 1863, when he made his escape and joined his Co. & Regiment.

July & August, 1963: Muster Roll calls for these months show Davis as 'present.'

26 December 1863: Muster Roll shows Davis 'absent' while on detail service at Nashville, TN.

January 1864: Muster Roll shows Davis 'absent' from roll call, cause listed as 'sick at Nashville, Tennessee.' His roll call listing for this date shows that he was in a 'Convalescent camp [in] Nashville, Tennessee.' The reason he was in the convalescent camp is not given.

March & April 1864: Muster Roll shows Davis as 'present' for roll call on these dates.

May & June 1864: Muster Roll shows Davis as 'present' for roll call on these dates.

July 31, 1864: Listed as Missing in Action while on maneuvers near the Chattahooche River valley, near Atlanta.

June 30, 1855: Davis discharged at Camp Chase, Ohio, by order of the War Department dated April 28, 1865.

July 12, 1865: Davis listed on the Detachment Muster-out roll at Nashville, Tennessee. Notations show that he had been a 'Prisoner of War' and that he had last been paid on April 30, 1864, shortly before his capture, and that he had an amount due him of $75.00.

February 1, 1886: Note from the Adjutant General's Office indicating that Davis had been a prisoner of war and that he had been ultimately released and mustered out of service. This entry further states that any earlier references that Davis had deserted his company are "hereby cancelled and records will be corrected accordingly."
