He was the son of Fielding and Delila (Stilwell) [McKinney] Jones. He married Lillie Pitts in Rushville, Mo., in 1915. They had two sons, Capt. Lester Harold Jones, who was a combat pilot during World War II and died in Lazio, Italy on April 22, 1944. Their second son, Ernest Franklin Jones, also served in the US Army, and was an aviation cadet at the time of his brother's death.

Fielding Jr. was a farmer most of his life and also engaged in carpentry. He and his wife moved to Tucson, Arizona, around 1944 for health reasons. Fielding had been battling tuberculosis for about 8 years prior to his death. He was survived by his wife, Lillie, son Ernest, of Kansas City, Mo; a sister, Lillie Crystal Smith of Rushville, Mo.; four grandchildren, and two nephews.
