Norman D. Tierney 81, a retired Professor and Certified Public Accountant passed away peacefully on December 5, 2022, at Hope Hospice-Palliative Care. He was the beloved husband of Jean C. (Clark) Tierney and of the late Alison M. (Lane) Tierney.

Born in Providence, the son of the late Ruth (Beaulieu) Tierney and Norman D. Tierney Sr.,

He lived in North Providence for 17 years moving to Chepachet in 1984. After serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, Norm enrolled at the University of Rhode Island from where he earned his Baccalaureate in accounting and a master's degree in accounting. While in graduate school, he met the former Alison Lane, with whom, at the time of her death on March 7, 2011, he had celebrated nearly 44 years of marriage.

From 1966-1970 he worked as an auditor of not-for-profit organizations for Haskins & Sells, Certified Public Accountants of Providence. After leaving public accounting, he opened his own CPA firm working from home. He was appointed as a professor of accounting at Roger Williams College in 1970 where he taught full-time until his retirement in 1998. For a few years, he taught classes during the summer in Newport.

While in grad school, Norm began his lifetime service as a volunteer fireman. For almost 20 years, he served on the North Providence Fire Department where he attained the rank of Captain. After moving, he joined the Chepachet Fire Department and during his many years there, he often drove rescue or one of the trucks. He also served as the department's training officer.

Active in the Masonic Fraternity, he was a 59-year member and a past master of Overseas Lodge No. 40, a RI Military Lodge. He was a member of York Rite Providence #1 – Chapter & Council, and of Calvary Commandery No. 13, Knights Templars. He served the Masonic Grand Lodge of Rhode Island for 17 years as R.W. Grand Treasurer, now serving as R.W. Grand Treasurer Emeritus. He also was made an Honorary Deputy Grand Master for the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia.

He was a former treasurer of the Glocester Business Association. Norm loved to read. He enjoyed playing golf and listening to Celtic music and Cowboy Poetry. He loved to travel, especially if driving to their destination. Norm expressed his "inner cowboy" through his hats and boots. He always enjoyed softball and for many years he played catcher in an over-30 league.

In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his daughters Megan Field (husband William), and Shannon Tierney, three stepchildren: Kimberly Hooper, Robyn Long-Navas and David Long; two sisters: Marcia Caplette, and Susan Gorrie; six step-grandchildren and, many nieces & nephews.
