Rebecca A. Atteberry Reed, daughter of Stout and Fanny Atteberry was
born October 12, 1825, in Grayson county, Kentucky. Age at death 94
years, 6 months, and 4 days. Died April 16, 1920.
She moved to Illinois with her parents at about the age of 20 years.
She was married to John M. Reed January 20, 1848. To this union four
children were born, Vincent C. George W., Elizabeth A. and Eleanor. Her
husband preceded her in death October 10, 1867 leaving her a family to
care for. All her children preceded her in death. She leaves a step
son N.G. Reed and Mrs. Betheny Reed and a niece raised by her who called
her mother; one sister Mrs. Sarah Branson of Orlando, Fla. She also
leaves the following grandchildren who were reared in the home with her;
Mrs. Etta Reed Hunt, William Charles, Vincent Thomas, Cunrt and Roy Reed
all who survive her with other grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a
number of great-grandchildren. It might be truly said all were her
friends. She was held in high esteem. One of the best of women is
gone. She joined the Rugular Baptist church August 12, 1883 and was
baptized September 9, 1883 and continued in the faith till death.
W.A. Mayberry conducted the funeral at the old home at 3pm Saturday
April 17, 1920. The body was interrred beside her mother in the
Atteberry cemetery some one having taken the lot beside her husband.
