Lawrence M. Henthorne, 71, of Sweet Home, Ore., died March 1.

He was born in Fort Towson, and was raised on a farm near Red River. He worked in Colorado for Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

He married Josephine Porton, Nov. 9, 1945 in Little Rock, Ark. They moved to Sweet Home, Ore., in 1953, where he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad until his 1970 retirement.

He loved gardening and feeding birds.

Surviving are his wife: Josephine of Sweet Home, Ore.; sisters: Leavis Morris, of Baton Rouge, La., Dorcas Unruh, of Queen City, Texas, and Maudie Henthorne, of Oklahoma City; brothers: Edward Henthorne, of Valliant, Paul Henthorne, of Idabel, and Clarence Henthorne, of DeValls Bluff, Ark.; and more than 40 nieces and nephews.

Brothers Roscoe, Samuel and Elijah and sisters Mary and Okema died before him.

Private family services were held at Steckley-Tracewell Funeral Home in Sweet Home, Ore.
