Hester Marie Courtney
24 Mar 1940 - 26 Nov 2022

Hester Marie Courtney, 82, of Milton, Florida died on Saturday, November 26, 2022.

Hester was born in Pace and is the third of five daughters.

Hester was not in the Armed Forces, but she did take care of her husband Wilbert through 31 years of being in the Air Force, and that deserves a lot of credit on its own. Anyone who ever tried her cooking knows, she was the best cook in the world. She loved to garden and nurtured gardens full of beauty. She was loving, extremely strong, and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gasque C. Jernigan, and Mary Virginia Ivey Jernigan; her daughter, Cheryl Marie Courtney; her nephew, Alan Neal, M.D.; and two sisters, Mollie Jane Ward, and Julie Booher.

Hester is survived by her husband of 64 years, Wilbert E. Courtney; her granddaughter, Julianne Marie Courtney; her great-grandson, Jasper Jackson; her two other sisters, Myra Hughes, and Patricia Price; and her niece, Lisa Denson.

Visitation for Hester Marie Courtney will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday December 5, 2022, at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel, 6405 Highway 90 West Milton, Florida 32570 with funeral services to follow at 2:00pm. Interment will be at Memory Park Cemetery.

For anyone thinking of buying flowers, she has explicitly said she would haunt us if carnations were brought into the funeral home.
