Maurice Irene Wehmeyer, 94, of Chamois, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2022 with her family by her side. She was born on July 9, 1928 in Morrison, Missouri, a daughter to the late Ferdinand August and Alma Marie (Karmer) Peters. On June 30, 1951, she was united in marriage to Delmer E. Wehmeyer, who preceded her in death.

Maurice was a 1946 graduate of Chamois High School. She was a hard worker and dedicated her time and efforts to multiple companies including Rowden's and Oberman's in Chamois. She also worked as a Nurse's Aide at Deaconess Hospital near St. Louis. She would retire from Mosby – Medical Book Warehouse, in Linn, Missouri.

When she wasn't busy working, Maurice often volunteered her time to her community and was very involved. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chamois, and the Women's Fellowship Group, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 506, served on the PTO when her daughters were in school, and served in the Community in Action Group in Chamois. Maurice enjoyed many things in life but would tell you her favorite past time was sewing. She took great pride in fixing her grandkids' clothes and being there to support them in their many activities. She also enjoyed cooking, dancing, and meeting her friends for lunch. She will be deeply missed by those who were blessed to know her.

Maurice is survived by her daughters, Janet Ann (Larry) Backes and Sue Del (Wayne) Lamb; grandchildren, Brad (Amy) Backes, David Backes, Michael Backes (Melissa Hladky), Dan (Bri) Lamb, Scott Lamb, and Stephanie (Nick) Veuleman; great-grandchildren, Rose, Violet, Hunter and Millie Backes, Grant and Theo Lamb, Josie and Elliott Veuleman, and Amy Hladky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Wehmeyer; parents, Ferdinand and Alma; sister Faye Perrey; and brother-in-law, Marvin Perrey.
