A lifelong resident of Plymouth, she was born September 6, 1916 in Plymouth, the daughter of the late John H. and Gertrude (Williams) Steever. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1934.
She was a member of the Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church, Plymouth, and its Sunday School, Class No. 5.
She was the oldest member and a past officer of Goodwill Hose Company No. 2 Ladies Auxiliary, having joined this organization at its inception in 1942. She was also a member and past officer of Plymouth Fire Co. No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary.
Known as the "daffodil lady" by local bank employees, she was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, selling daffodils in the bank lobby for many years. She also made pillows for cancer patients. In prior years, she donated her time as a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, and working crossword puzzles.
She was a member and past matron of Plymouth Chapter No. 345, Order of the Eastern Star, and also a past president of the Past Matron and Past Patron Association of Wyoming Valley.
Her brothers, Gilbert and Clarence Steever, and her sister, Lucetta Swortwood, preceded her in death.
She is survived by daughters, Janet Naus and husband, Donald, residing in Vestal, NY; Karen Dructor, residing in Exeter; and son, Charles and wife, Charlotte, residing in Larksville; grandchildren, Cynthia Carden and husband, Daniel; Mary Carden and husband, Timothy; and Elaine Naus, all residing in New York; Raymond Naus, residing in California; Wendy Brown, residing in West Pittston; Jeffrey Smith, residing in Plymouth; and Thomas Smith, residing in Virginia; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday from the William A. Reese Funeral Chapel, Gaylord Avenue, Plymouth, at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. David Wildoner, of the Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Eastern Star services will be held on Friday evening at 7:30 at the funeral chapel.
