Mr. Thomas "Allen" McCarter, age 78 a resident of Auburndale passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach surrounded by family. Mr. McCarter was born October 22, 1942 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to Isaac Ellis and Sarah Jane (Palmore) McCarter. His family moved to Auburndale in 1944 from Tennessee. Allen graduated from Auburndale High School Class of 1960. After graduation he worked for Adams Packing and then joined the Air Force for a four year enlistment. Returning to Florida, Allen worked for and retired from GTE Telephone Company after 25+ years. Allen was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Westwood Missionary Baptist Church in Winter Haven where he joined mission trips as a builder, going to Romania, Peru, Columbia & Kenya. Allen was a stock car driver at Auburndale Speedway in the late 70's and he loved NASCAR. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, wine making and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother – Charles McCarter and sister – Judy Vann. Allen is survived by his loving family, wife of 55 years – Judith Annette (Gilbert) McCarter; son – Ronald Keith Forrester; 2 daughters – Melissa Dianne McCarter and fiancée William Donald Rice and Susan Aline McCarter and husband Robert James Smart; 2 nephews – Isaac and Bryant; 6 nieces – Gail, Sherron, Jill, Wendy, Tammy and Beth. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 7th at Kersey Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1pm at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park.
