Born to Marie Ange (Boucher) and George Chandonnet in 1940, Andre had Downs Syndrome. Lived at home until age 16 when his parents were getting too elderly to care for him. He was moved to a group home for the "mentally retarded" (Templeton Colony--later known as the Walter E. Fernald State School) where he lived the rest of his life. He was well cared for there and was visited often by family and had many friends. Andre suffered several strokes in his later years, the final one taking his life. He enjoyed vacationing on the cape, trains, toy soldiers and a "Big birthday cake" on his birthday.
