Betty Jane (Church) Girton, age 86 of Rootstown, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at her home. Betty was a lifelong resident of the New Milford area.

She was born April 5, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, to parents Hazel Vivian and William Ralph Church. Betty had many interests including painting, golfing, and bowling. She was also a Girl Scout leader and a member of the First Congregational Church of Rootstown, UCC. Betty was a New Milford business owner for 41 years and was known in the neighborhood as the Candy Lady.

Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Russell William Girton. She is also survived by her children: son Thomas (Elizabeth) of Asheville, North Carolina, daughter Kathryn (Joseph) Rooks of Midway, Georgia, son David (Renee) of Lake Milton, Ohio and preceded in death by daughter Susan Reardon. Betty's memory will continue to be cherished by her 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Bernice Hogle, and her brothers William and Ralph Church.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be celebrated by Pastor Susan Woodall, on Monday, March, 31, 2014, at 1:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
