Marlene N. Welliever, age 86, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at the Wibaux County Nursing Home in Wibaux, Montana. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wibaux with Liz Franz officiating. Interment will follow in the Wibaux County Cemetery in Wibaux. Silha Funeral Home of Wibaux has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Marlene was born on February 28, 1936, to Roy and Norma (Stockwell) Amunrud, six hours before February 29th on a leap year. All new moms had to stay in the hospital for ten days after giving birth. On the way home from Glendive to Cottonwood, they stopped at Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive and Marlene was baptized. Edna Pederson, her dad's sister, was Marlene's God Mother and from then on, Marlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran in Wibaux. Marlene lived north of Wibaux on the Amunrud place, a large home which was great for their big family and their neighbors were their relatives. She went to Cottonwood Hall dances in the 1940s and 1950s. When they were done dancing, they walked across the road home.

When Marlene was a freshman, Peggy Schell told her that she was going to ask David to the Sadie Hawkins dance if she didn't. Marlene hurried and asked him, knowing he would never go with her. From then on, she was his "girl". Marlene graduated from Wibaux County High School in 1954, then went on to attend Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for two years. Marlene and David still have all the letters they wrote to each other while David was in the Army from June 1953 to June 1957.

On June 30, 1957 David and Marlene started their married life living in a shack on Beaver Creek where they operated a dairy farm. All of their children were born in the ten years, from July 1959 to May 1969. In the 1960's their kids started school, which led to many new adventures. The 1970s were filled with kids' school activities, 4H and A LOT of milking cows. In the 1980s, the kids started getting married and the in-law's appeared. Marlene worked as a Wibaux County Extension Secretary to the County Agent and at the Pierre Wibaux Museum in the 1990s until 2002, and cow milking ceased in 1998. Marlene and David spent forty-one years milking cows, going 'Grade A' in 1964.

Marlene wishes to recognize her siblings and school friends, all of whom she dearly loved. Marlene was proud of her Norwegian Ancestry, always enjoying cooking lutefisk, lefse and Scandinavian cookies for family dinners. She never flew on an airplane, but was blessed to wake up every morning listening to God's chorus – birds, coyotes, cattle, wind, and all the other sounds of nature. Marlene lived north of Wibaux for over eighty-two years.

Marlene is proceeded in death by her husband, David in 2020; her parents, Roy and Norma Amunrud; her brother, Allen Dean; her sisters-in-law, Janet Amunrud and Margaret Elko; her brothers-in-law, Gordon Lunde and Bill Elko and David's parents, Elmer "Hap" and Edith Welliever.

Marlene is survived by her children, Dean (Peggy) Welliever of Billings, MT, Dale Welliever of Wibaux, Dona (Casey) Osksa of Plentywood, MT, Darci Welliever, and Davin Welliever of Wibaux; her grandchildren, Kyle, Kevin (Abby), Tom, Kelci (Connor), Steven, Brady, Brenna and Bryce; her siblings, Ronald Amunrud, Norrine Lunde, Dan Amunrud and Luayne (Mike) Amunrud and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
