Frances Mary Gurka died January 15, 2008 with her family at her side at Cartmell Home for Aged in Palestine, Texas. Burial was in ST. Joseph's Cemetery. She was born July 18, 1920 in Brenham, Texas. Frances was married to Edward Gurka Sr. Oct. 26, 1946 in Brenham. After residing in Houston for many years they moved to Palestine. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 10 years ago. She remained at home with her loving husband until September 2007 and then moved to Cartmell Home's Sarah Unit. Frances was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. She was survived by her husband of 61 years, Edward; sister, Regina Sechelski; and brother, Max Mazurkiewicz; daughters, Lilly Duncan and husband Frank, and Patty Pugh; son, Ed Gurka Jr. and wife Oralia; grandchildren, Jamie Hernandez, Valerie Johnson and husband Billy, Ben Goodwyn and wife Mandy, Nicholas Gurka, and Laura, Eddie and Daniel Pugh; great-grandchildren, Christian and Jacob Hernandez, Makenzie, Brady and Kortney Johnson, and Justin and Nathan Goodwyn.
