A lifelong resident of Eagan, Ruth built a home on property homesteaded by her great grandparents. She attended Rosemount high school and she was a 4-H member, raising steers her last year of high school and selling them at the Minnesota State Fair to pay for her first year of college tuition. After proudly graduating from the University of Minnesota, Ruth spent 30+ years as a medical technologist at Bethesda and St Joseph hospitals in St Paul. She then started a short career as a bookkeeper and office manager for a cabinet shop. Ruth was always one to lend a hand where needed.

At St John's Lutheran Church, Rosemount, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and led the Luther League for many years. She moved to St Luke's Lutheran, in St Paul, where she again joined the choir and was the church treasurer for several years.

Ruth loved the outdoors and would rather be outside working with plants, mowing the lawn or chopping wood. She loved her birds and made sure they were fed even when she was no longer physically able to do so. From young on she was an avid lover of horses, especially hers: King, Poco Joe, and Billy. She was a member of the Flying D Saddle club and won ribbons with Poco Joe. Also, a sports fan, when the Vikings, Twins or Gophers were playing, she was watching.

When her brother decided to run for office, Ruth took on the campaign treasurer duties and in the early years installed lawn signs as well. Ruth was always proud to participate in parades, fundraisers and other grass roots efforts for Jim and other DFL candidates.

Preceded in death by parents Anna (Linkert) and Arnold Carlson.
