After a few months he sent for Callie Hooten and they were married at Crown Point, Indiana on August 13th 1925 by the Justice Of The Peace. In 1926 he went to work at The Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. (A steel mill ). He retired from there in 1967. From Whiting he moved to East Chicago, then to Hammond and back to East Chicago. In 1937 he built a house in Black Oak a section between Hammond and Gary. He moved his house to another section of Black Oak in 1947. He was living there when he died of leukemia.
Raymond had no formal training as a tradesman, but he was a barber, cabinetmaker and upholsterer. He only finished the fourth grade in school. Mainly because his father was shot and killed when he was 9 years old. However one of his main hobbies was reading.
