She came to Missouri as a child, to Carroll County. She met Ambrose Young, who had a nearby farm in Millville, in Ray County. They were married there on September 29th, 1853, when she was 17. Their 300 acre farm was located 2 miles south of Millville. There, they had 5 children, two daughters preceding her in death. She was survived by 3 sons, all of the Kansas City area.
They were members of the M. E. South Church, and Ambrose was a Mason and served 3 years as Millville's Postmaster. He died in 1886, at the age of 55. Afterwards, they sold the family estate, and moved to Kansas City.
