Son of John and Elizabeth (Butts) Hicks.
John a popular Universalist preacher in Indiana. Donated land to form the town of Patriot, Indiana. In 1835 donated 50 silver dollars which were melted and, with other metal, cast into a bell for the Universalist church of Patriot, IN. Pastor of that church and of the Universalist church of Switzerland, Indiana, possibly at the same time. His brother Edward was also a Universalist minister in Indiana.
