Doris was the daughter of Edna D. and Roy McGee. She married Sergeant Albert S. Phillips, USMC., on January 9, 1944, in the Normandy Wedding Chapel in Long Beach, California. They honeymooned at Big Bear Lake and made their home in Long Beach. Albert had just returned to the States after serving 21 months in the Pacific.
In 1950, Doris, Albert, and their one-year-old daughter, Linda, were living in Santa Ana, California, where Albert was employed as a patrolman with the city police department.
Doris was widowed on June 22, 2012. She lived another nine years and six months before she, too, passed away. Doris was laid to rest with him at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery early in 2022, where they share the site and the stone. Their inscriptions both read, "I'll be loving you forever."
