Survived by loving wife, Helen H. Baker; son, Cullen E. Baker III, St. Petersburg Beach, FL; son, Bill (Kitty) Holbrook, Nashville, TN; and daughter, Bette B. Madison, Atlanta, GA; and 3 grandchildren.

Mr. Baker graduated from the Duncan College Preparatory School for Boys, Valedictorian, Class of 1935 and from Vanderbilt University, Class of 1939, and member of the S.A.E. Fraternity and also the golf team. Mr. Baker served in the European Theater of World War II as a Staff Sergeant in a communication platoon of the 76th Combat Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion 385th Headquarters Company, retiring from the service from the 4th Infantry Division. Mr. Baker was District Sales Manager, serving Middle Tennessee area for the Bank Division of DieBold Incorporated, Canton, OH for 34 years, retiring in 1981. Mr. Baker's life was involved with golf, being introduced to the game by his father in 1927 at the Inglewood Golf Club. His father was a remarkable man and avid sportsman, who taught you to have a desire, concentrate and be competitive. His mother, Mary was a quiet caring, loving, religious person who studied and kept up with the game in detail. Mr. Baker also wants to pay tribute to Landon Cheek, one of the finest, who taught him the game of golf at Inglewood. In 1935 as a teenager, Mr. Baker's father moved their membership to Richland Country Club, where he has been an active member since that year. His credits as a golfer were Nashville SchoolBoy Champion 1934, Captain Vanderbilt Gold Team 1936-1939, Richland Club Champion 1937, 1939, 1949, Nashville Metropolitan Amateur Champion, 1937, 1939, 1940, Nashville Golf Player of Year 1940, qualifier 136 Strokes (36 holes) and player US Amateur 1948, Nashville Metropolitan Open Champion 1949, Richland Senior Champion several times, shot the course in 72 strokes at age 74 and was honored in 1995 by The Richland Commemorative Golf Tournament. His Naples Florida golfing friends called him "Sweet Swinger". Mr. Baker was a member of Woodmont Baptist Church. Visitation will be at Roesch Patton Funeral Home, 1715 Broadway, 3-6 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be at Woodmont Baptist Church, 1 p.m. Thursday, with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Services will be officiated by Dr. Jon Roebuck and Dr. Bert Dyson. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.

His medical condition was caused by pulmonary fibrosis, even though he did not smoke.
