Richard Lee Matarelli, age 84, of Peoria, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville, IL. Richard was born on February 27, 1938, in Peoria, IL, the son of the late Herman "Cy" Matarelli and Ollidene (Macklin) Matarelli. On March 8, 1961, he married the love of his life, Sandra Kay (Fisher) Matarelli.

Besides his wife of 61 years, Richard is survived by two sons, Marc A. Matarelli of Skokie, IL, and Kevin C. Matarelli and his wife, Julie, of Edwardsville, IL; and a brother, Larry J. Matarelli of Chicago, IL.

Richard worked as an Operating Engineer for 35 years at Caterpillar before retiring. He was an avid fan and follower of local high school sports, especially his alma mater, Peoria High School. In 2000, Richard and his teammates were inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame for their 1954 undefeated season. Richard loved fishing, traveling, and good times shared with family and friends.

Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum.
