Johan Loede (AKA Lloyd) came to North America as a Hessian soldier fighting with the British in the War of Independence.
Believed to have married Mary Cline (Klein) of New York State in 1783 after he'd left the military.
The couple lived initially in Kingston where their first child John was born. They soon moved over the township border to Leeds. They were each separately granted land; Mary based on UEL status and Johan for his service.
