James R. Aldous, Ret. Senior Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy, 75, of 525 Elizabeth St., Oneida, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center in New Hartford. In the hours leading up to his death, he was surrounded by his beloved wife and loving family.

He was born on December 18, 1946, in Glens Falls, NY, the son of Franklin and Anna (Kubricky) Aldous. Jim was a 1965 graduate of Queensbury High School.

Immediately after high school, Jim proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on July 27, 1965. He began his Naval career stationed at the Naval Submarine Base New London, Groton, CT. From Connecticut, Jim was transferred to the U.S. Navsecgruact in Misawa, Japan, where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. In 1976, Jim was transferred to the Naval Air Station in Brunswick, ME. He was then stationed in Norfolk, VA, and returned back to Maine until 1983 when he was transferred to the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He was honorably discharged as a Senior Chief Petty Officer on July 31, 1987.

It was in Misawa, Japan, that Jim wrote a letter to Evalide Thomas asking her to be his wife. On a leap of faith, Evie followed her heart and took the first plane out to Japan to marry the love of her life. On September 25, 1970, Jim and Evie were united in marriage; a blessed union of fifty-two years.

After Jim's Naval career and his family's relocation to Oneida in 1987, he went to work for the United States Postal Service in Syracuse, retiring in 1999 due to disability.

Jim attended St. Patrick's Church in Oneida and was a man of deep faith. He was an avid baseball fan, especially the New York Yankees. He enjoyed many trips to Cooperstown where he collected different memorabilia and autographs from many Yankees throughout the years.

Jim's greatest joy in life was his family, constantly putting their needs above his own. He took great pride in being their "Papa Bear". His grandchildren made his life complete. He was revered by everyone who knew him for his sacrifice to his country, his family, and his friends.

Surviving besides his loving wife, Evie; are his three children, James (MaryBeth) Aldous, of Niskayuna, NY, Kerri (Andrew) Sullivan, of Oneida, and Thomas (Anne) Aldous, of Greensboro, NC; six grandchildren, Kathryn, Casey, Madelyn, Brady, Sydney, and Cameron; a brother, John (Pat) Aldous, of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Franklin and Anna.
