NELTA HASTEN
Nelta Hasten, 84, of Mertens died Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana. She was born February 16, 1923, in Mertens, daughter of the late Blanny and Ada Kemp Thomas, where she grew up and spent all of her life. After graduating from Mertens High School, she went on to receive her Bachelor's degree from North Texas and her Master's degree from Baylor in education. She taught school for 42 years. On May 27, 1943, she married Leonard Hasten. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Italy. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Survivors include: her husband, Leonard Hasten of Mertens; one son, Kenneth Hasten and wife, Freda, of Mertens; and two grandchildren, Kyle Hasten and Michelle Smithey.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial was at Richland Cemetery in Mertens. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 200, Italy, TX 76651
