Emerson Alford Beard moved from Lincoln County, Tennessee as a small child to Ellis County, Texas. He married Nora Clyde King on January 3, 1900 in Inez, Texas. They lived in Waxahachie, Ellis County for several years before moving to Jackson County. They had four children--Nannabelle, Henry Benjamin, Roland Emerson and Cecil Alford.
