On November 22, 1965, he was flying in a Sikorsky Seahorse Utility Helicopter (UH-34D) on a combat mission. Bad weather forced his aircraft out to sea between Chu Lai and Quang Ngai, South Vietnam. When contact was lost he was declared missing.
His remains were never recovered.
His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
