Faye Altha Sessions Hawkins, 97 years old, was born at home on Aug. 6th, 1924 in Ogden, Utah. She died June 26th, 2022 in Alpine, Utah.

Faye was the second of three girls. LeJean, her older sister and Marilyn, her younger sister, were also born at home. As a child of the depression, she remembered and appreciated the lessons of thrift, (except maybe the idea of spreading lard on her bread.) Her father worked hard to get their family through the hard times. Both her father and mother worked in the Royal Canning Corporation and later the Van Kampen Furniture store down the street from their home. Faye learned how to make draperies from her mother and passed that skill on to her daughter.

At Weber High School she met her high school sweetheart Robert Gray Jacobs. Faye and Gray were sealed on June 28, 1944 in the Salt lake Temple and she accompanied him to Oklahoma until he was sent to Europe to serve in WW11. He was killed in the Battle of the Bulge.

Faye went on to Utah State to earn her degree. Later she moved to San Francisco to live with a college friend and pursue her credentials in Social work. She met Robert (Bob) Julian Hawkins in San Francisco. They were married June 20, 1949. They eventually moved to Mountain View, then to Sunnyvale, CA. where they raised their children: Daughter Jacque and sons Rob, John, and Rick.

She taught her children by example to love gardening, cooking, and to have a "do-it-yourself" attitude. From the 50's until the 80's the family lived in a house that was built inside a former apricot orchard. There was one apricot tree in the yard that she and her children would harvest, bottle and dry to make some of the best jams and preserves throughout the year. They also had berries, apples, peaches, and so many other fruits and vegetables. Her children all now enjoy their own gardens.

When her children were in elementary school, she would help decide what they wanted to be for Halloween. She would sew and put the costumes together for all the kids. For annual summer vacations, and frequently Easter, she would also sew clothes, which for the boys, often matched. She and her husband Bob took a class together to learn to make furniture.

When the kids were all in school, Faye went back to college to get her California teaching credentials. She developed a School Age Mothers program at the school district when she saw that the girls who got pregnant were just ending their education and dropping out. She could have been judgemental and condemning about their situation but instead did what she could to help. She was qualified to teach them the whole breadth of subjects needed to get their diploma, plus child care and homemaking skills. She was a very important part of many young ladies' lives.

She got out of the house a lot more during those years. She got a bright red Fiat Spider and was so tickled when a couple of young men whistled at her.

After Faye and Bob retired, they started spending time up in the California Gold Country and eventually moved to Sonora. They did a lot of traveling, especially spending time in Great Britain and Norway.

Faye was always proactive, making decisions for her life instead of being forced into changes, so when Bob passed away in 2004, she made the decision to move to Utah and serve a mission in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was concentrating on doing temple work for Bob's ancestors in Norway. After the mission she decided that she did not want to cook or drive anymore. She moved into Summerfield Senior Living community 14 years ago and enjoyed the friends she made. She found a special enjoyment in her balcony and the view of the garden below.

Faye always paid attention to what was happening in the world. She was well read and well informed. She was grateful to live in this time and place when she had the blessings of cornea transplants and hearing aids. She was a great example of an independent woman and a caring grandmother to her 10 grandchildren and 23 much loved great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn Gardner (Dairrel)Alpine, UT, Sons Robert Hawkins of London UK, John Hawkins (Cheryl) of Stirling City, CA and Rick Hawkins (Eileen) of Santa Cruz, CA., a sister, Marilyn Parker of Logan, Utah and her grandchildren Carrie Reed, Tara Johnson, Jared Gardner, Paige Lyon, Casey Hansen, Stephanie Ingram, Genesee Jordan, Brianna Walker, Rachel Coonrad, Emma Hawkins and many nieces and nephews.

Faye was preceded in death by her husbands John Gray Jacobs, and Robert Julian Hawkins, her parents Odell and Altha Sessions, her sister LaJean Call, her son-in law John Gardner and two great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at Thursday, June 30th, at 11:00 am, at the Aultorest Memorial Park Cemetery, 836 36th St. Ogden, Utah.
