Carolyn J. Custer, 69, of 1501 F Ave. NW, died Thursday
Sept 8, 2005, in her home following a short illness. Memorial
services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of
memories. The Rev. Beverly Thompson-Travis will officiate.
Friends may register at the chapel after 2 p.m. Saturday.
Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Lynn Perry and
husband Anthony of Decatur, Ill; her son, Dennis Dale
Custer and wife Jodi of Hiawatha, two grandchildren,
Sonya Benda and husband Tim and Kyle Custer; two
great-grandchildren, Taylor and Colton Benda; two
brothers, John Steyne and wife Helen of Pensacola, Fla.,
and Daniel Steyne of Cedar Rapids; and five sisters, Jackie
Gaskill and husband Joe of Oswego, Ill., Patricia Osweiler
and husband Benny of Carlisle, Iowa, Kathy Peel and
husband Jimmy of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Lynda Walleck of
Cedar Rapids and Leah Fisher and husband Gary of Bella
Vista, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters,
Geraldine Wright and Roberta Milke; and two brothers-in-law,
Andy Walleck and John Milke.
Carolyn was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, to John
Arthur and Mayme Blanche Jindrich Steyne. Carolyn had
worked as a cashier for K-Mart in Cedar Rapids for three
years and had worked in production for Metric Systems
Corp. in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
She was a member of the Grub Club, and enjoyed
attending the Cedar Rapids community concerts. She was
an avid Yahtzee player and also enjoyed playing Scrabble.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids or the American Red
Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief.
