Vivian Chesser Sheppard, 86, of Palatka, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness.

She was a native of St. Johns Park, Flagler County, Fla., and had been a resident of Putnam County for the past 71 years, coming from St. Johns Park. In the late 1960s and early 70s she and her husband, Reuben Sheppard, owned and operated a congregate living center in Hollister. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Palatka and was a former longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Hollister.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Russell L. Chesser and Reuben L. Sheppard; two sons, William Chesser and Russell Chesser Jr.; two brothers, Alfred Tillman and Vincent Tillman, and six stepchildren.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Edwin Reid of Palatka, Grace and Terry Theriault of Jacksonville and Dottie and Frank Brown of Palatka; three sons and daughters-in-law, Elmer and Pat Chesser of Powder Springs, Ga., Winston and Shay Chesser of Metter, Ga., and Mack and Betty Chesser of Interlachen; one stepdaughter, Linda Hutchinson of Palatka; three stepsons, Roy Sheppard of Georgia, Irving Sheppard of Green Cove Springs and Troy Sheppard of Tennessee; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, at the Masters Funeral Home of Palatka with Bro. L.D. Osteen, pastor of the Woodlawn Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Hollister Cemetery.
