The son of , Thomas Jefferson Scalf & Martha Hammonds. He married his 1st wife , Polly May Owens , on June 13 , 1899. Together , Lee & Polly had " 5 " children. Lee would eventually move his family to New Symrna , Florida in the year of 1910. Four months later his wife Polly died from Typhoid Fever. Lee's second marriage was to , Julia Elizabeth Chambers. Lee owned considerable real estate in St. Petersburg , Florida. He operated a jewelry store & a barbershop. Lee served as a private for the 4th Kentucky Infantry during the Spanish American War. During his service , he contracted yellow fever while in Cuba and as a result , would remain in poor health the remainder of his life. The last year of his life he suffered from chronic kidney disease & Arteriosclerosis and he was admitted to the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Bay Pines , FL , also the place in which he died.
