Henry Louis "Hank" Gerdes, 77, of Mount Clare, formerly of White City, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

He was born July 7, 1926, in Staunton, the son of Henry and Hannah Flitz Gerdes. He married Betty June Edith Jones in 1949 in Salem, Mo. A son, David Gerdes, preceded him in death.

Mr. Gerdes attended Mount Olive High School and retired as a carpenter. He also was a farmer and a railroad employee for 20 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mount Olive, Carpenters Union and Benld Croatian Lodge. He was a life member of Turner Hall.

Survivors: wife, Betty; two sons, Mike (wife, Kathy) Gerdes of Gillespie and Henry (wife, Marilyn) Gerdes of Litchfield; four daughters, Patty Johnson of Mount Clare, Connie (husband, George) Andrasko and Janie (husband, Jeff) Kaduk, both of Mount Olive, and Tina Dever of Litchfield; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mount Olive, the Rev. Daniel Barbey officiating. Burial: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Mount Olive.

Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mount Olive is in charge of arrangements.
