CARTER, WALLACE RAY Born December 9, 1919. Passed away September 1, 2007. H. M. & Leah Carter and one brother, Donnie Joe Carter, preceded him in death. His wife, Dorthy of 64 years and daughter and son-in law, Mark and Doana Smith, survives him as well as granddaughter Lindsay Smith. Ray gave his heart to Christ at sixteen and by the age of twenty-one, he was serving as Deacon in the Sunday School at his home church in Lone Oak, Texas before World War II. Ray was a barber for 62 years and owned and operated his shop in Garland for 54 years. Ray was a WW II veteran that traveled to the South Pacific with the 31 st Division and the 124th Infantry. He served as a first scout in the jungles of New Guinea, also served as squad leader in the battles for the Southern Philippines. He was also a member of the VFW Post #5076. Ray was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship Church in Dallas, TX. Ray said when he was discharged from the army he received a letter that simply said, "Thanks for a job well done." Signed the President of the United States. Ray said many times over the years, "When I stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ, to be judged according to the deeds done in the body, I would like to hear those same words, "Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of the Lord." Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00PM Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be 1:00PM Wednesday, September 5, 2007 in Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
