Robert Mickey Bass was born May 23, 1931, in Grand Saline, Texas to Odis and Ruth (Higginbotham) Bass. He went peacefully to sleep in the arms of Jesus, in the early morning, October 25, 2022.

Bob grew up in Jacksonville, Texas, where he worked on his parent's farm and learned about gardening, hard work and job ethics.

During High school, he worked at Simpsons Grocery. and graduated from Jacksonville high school in 1949.

During college, he was employed for Red Ball Motor freight. Bob was very patriotic and served in the Air Force between high school and college.

While attending Jacksonville college, he met JoAnn Austin and fell in love. They married July 13th, 1956, at Truitt Chapel, Dallas. There he attended Arlington State College.

Bob's entire career was at Employers Casualty Company Dallas. He began as a System Supervisor of Casualty Underwriting.

He progressed for 36 years and retired in 1992 as Vice President of the Property Casually Administration and Data Control Division.

In the Employer's Insurance Company, He gained a reputation for honest ethics and fair dealings. He was respected among coworkers, with a quiet smiling, demeanor, and winning way. His habit was to go to his job in downtown Dallas at the Home Office, early each day, to try to get ahead of central expressway traffic.

He played dominos at lunch time with friends. But socially, he always came home to his family after work. At retirement, Bob and JoAnn moved to Jacksonville again.

Bob was a singer! He began as a child and was known to share his songs. During his years at Jacksonville college, he sang tenor in the college quartet, often traveling to represent the school.

God's gifts of life to their home were a joy: a son Craig and a daughter Dana. Bob loved to fish and hunt, usually in East Texas. In later years, he loved to travel and hike in the mountains, with his family.

Bob was a humble man. He deeply loved and cared for his family.

He trusted Christ as his Savior as a young man. His faithfulness to God was a daily witness, through his work, his church, and family. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, favorite uncle, and friend: His love was evident.

Left to cherish his memory, is his wife of 66 years JoAnn, son Craig of Dallas and girlfriend Debra Austin, daughter Dana and husband Rick of Cypress. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Derrick, Darryl, and Sam and 4 great grandchildren, Aiden, Austin, Addy, and Legend. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Odis Bass Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jacksonville College or cornerstone Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2022, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Rev. Larry Barker officiating. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin on Thursday, October 27, 2022, and friends are cordially invited to visit with Bass family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
