MAN BURNED TO DEATH AT MONTEREY

A 67-year-old Monterey man died of burns Monday forenoon when his clothing became ignited from a trash fire.

Emory L. Muth, a retired man, was burning rubbish at the Richard McCrea antique store, near Wally's Inn, at the time of the accident.

Mr. Muth, who lived near the McCrea place, took some rubbish to a trash barrel to burn. While tending the fire, sparks ignited the adjacent grass and spread to his clothing.

SERVICES THURSDAY
Dr. John P. Manges, Franklin County coroner, said it was accidental death from burning. Mr. Muth was born at Monterey, son of the late Lewis F. and Viola M. (Birely) Muth.

With the exception of five years, when he resided in New Jersey, he lived in the Blue Ridge Summit area. He made his home with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Creager, for the last 40 years. He was a member of Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his sister, Mrs. Creager, he is survived by five brothers, Kenneth A. Muth, Lewis F. Muth, Jr., both of Charmian; Wilbert Muth, Delair, N.J.; Lee R. Muth, Harrisburg, and Sgt. Gordon C. Muth, Lubbock, Tex.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, conducted by the Rev. Robert Rhoades. Burial will be in the Fountaindale Cemetery. There will be no viewing.
