Mary "Mom" Joann Borth, 73, went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2008 following a courageous and heroic battle with lung and brain cancer. Mary was a devout Christian and member of Edgerton, KS, Family Bible Church and also attended Friends Church of Gardner, KS. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Edgerton Family Bible Church, with a 12:30 p.m. burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Donations can be sent to Edgerton Family Bible Church or the Gardner Multi Service Center. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 at Bruce Funeral Home, P.O. Box 192, Gardner, KS 66030, 913-856-7111.
Mary was born on June 17, 1934 in Pittsburg, PA, to Charles and Lillian Bawtenheimer. Mary began her career as an RN. She loved working in the operating room for 20 years. She also worked as a nursing home administrator and food manager/owner. For the last 10 years, Mom worked at her son Wally's restaurant as a bookkeeper. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Bawtenheimer and sister Margaret Lawrence. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Marvin; children Joanna and Wayne Presley, Maggie and Randy Smith, Lydia and William Saunders, Michael and Jamie Borth, and Wally and Dawn Borth; grandchildren Jason and Christie Smith, Jennifer Robinson, Megan Aud, Lauren Saunders, Meagan Borth, Jessica Saunders, Tia Smith, Garrett Borth; great-grandchildren Marshall, Dylan and Blake; sisters and brother-in-law Irene Borth, Jean Mankins, Dee Hackler and Larry and Judy Borth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
