Christopher Beam, born in Lancaster or York County, Pennsylvania, September 1, 1761 - June 15,1828. Descendant of an German family. Married Elizabeth Crise (1763-1800) about 1790. Military Service - Revolutionary War. Private in 7th class, 2nd Company, Captain
Patrick Hay, Comdg., 9th Bro. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Militia, Col. John Rodgers Comdg, 1781. Also served under
same officers in 5th Company 6th Bn. in 1779. A record of his military service appears in rol. 7, 5 series Pennsylvania. Archives, pp. 553, 562, and
932. He came to Somerset County about 1793 when land was offered, usually 200 acres, to Revolutionary War soldiers in return for ser-
vices, in order that the country might be settled. He was listed as a farmer and miller. He operated a mill about 2 miles from Bakersville; later this mill was operated by a family named Shaffer and by a man named Lohr. The mill has been destroyed. He died June 15,
1828, in Somerset Township, now Jefferson Township;
