Anchorage resident Esther R. Afflack, 83, a homemaker, died Oct. 22 at home. A visitation was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Eighth Avenue and E Street. A visitation was also held at the Merritt Funeral Home in Oklahoma City, Okla. A funeral was held at the Little Chapel of the Roses on the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Afflack was born Feb. 17, 1907, in Oklahoma City. She had been a homemaker most of her life, but worked at Tinker Field during World War II. According to her family, her real work was helping to form and working with the hospital auxiliaries in Tioga, N.D., and Grants, N.M. Mrs. Afflack was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and had worked in their many philanthropic activities until Lou Gehrig's disease incapacitated her. She had been married to Albert G. LeVern, until his death about 40 years ago. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Don, and her son, William Le-Vern.

Mrs. Afflack is survived by her daughter, Margery Robinson of Anchorage; her son, Victor LeVern of Kailua, Hawaii; her sister, Mildred Baumeister of Edmonds, Wash.; her brothers, Ted Walley of Oklahoma City, and Dave McKinley of Spokane, Wash.; her grandsons, Robert Robinson II of Wasilla, and Rand Robinson, of Margate, Fla.; her granddaughters, Suzanne Strong of Tacoma, Wash., and Victoria Dunlap of Auburn, Wash.; her stepgrandsons, Larry LeVern of Moore, Olka., and Jerry LeVern of Houston, Texas; and six great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for Lou Gehrig's Disease, 1838 W. Northern Lights Blvd., Anchorage 99517.
