B. Stuart Walcott was a son of Charles D. and Helena Walcott of Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of Princeton University. Lt. Walcott initially served with the Lafayette Escadrille and was later commissioned in the United States Aviation Corps. According to the New York Times report of his loss, he had downed a German aircraft and was then shot down when attacked by three German planes.
