4367 Private A Woolett (or Woollett), 1st Battalion the (Princess of Wales's Own) Yorkshire Regiment. The battalion deployed to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, sailing on the Doune Castle about 24 Nov 1899, and arrived at the Cape about 15 Dec 1899. They were initially deployed to the Colesberg district to help General French in his efforts to repel the Boer invasion of the colony. In early Feb 1900, along with the 1st Essex and 1st Welsh, was sent to the Modder River, joining the 18th Brigade under Brigadier General T Stephenson, for the advance to Bloemfontein and Pretoria. They fought at the battle of Paardeberg 18-27 Feb 1900 (31 killed and over 100 wounded) and at Driefontein on 10 Mar 1900. Private Woolett died of disease at Bloemfontein on 25 Apr 1900. He was buried on 26 Apr 1900. He is also commemorated on the Yorkshire Regiment Boer War memorial on a roundabout in Tower Street, Adjacent to County Court, York, North Yorkshire, England (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/191775/).
