Funeral services for Charles Lee Carter Sr, 83, a pioneer Birmingham resident, who died Tuesday in a local hospital after a long illness, were held today.

Servies were held at Brown-Service Norwood Chapel, with the Rev Mabry Rose and the Rev Paul Brinkley officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.

A native of Georgia, Mr Carter had made his home in Birmingham for the past 75 years. At the time of his death he lived at 1004 Fourth-wy, Pratt City. He was a retired lumber contractor and was a former employe of Wood Lumber Co.

He was a member of the Coosa Valley Baptist Church and was a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs Emma J Carter, two daughters, Mrs Estelle Hartley and Mrs W L Phillips and a son M-Sgt Charlie L Carter Jr, stationed at Ft Benning, Ga.
