Donna Lea Russo was born in Texas City on October 26, 1960 to Robert and Margie Wheeler. Growing up in Dickinson, Donna was involved in scouts, sports, and cheerleading. She took that athletic spirit to Texas City where she graduated in 1979 from Texas City High School. In 1986, she graduated from the University of Houston-Clear Lake with a degree in elementary education and a specialty in reading. She taught at Roosevelt Wilson and Northside Elementaries in Texas City for eighteen years receiving second place for the Teacher of the Year Award for TCISD in 2004.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Robert W. Wheeler, both sets of grandparents, and her mother-in-law Sophia Russo. She is survived by her loving husband of twenty-five years Joe R. Russo, Jr. and her two sons Joseph and Mitchell; her mother, Margie N. Wheeler of Groveton; her sister and husband Tina and Karl Sanders of League City; her brother David W. Wheeler of Kerrville; her father-in-law Joe Russo, Sr. of Texas City; her sister-in-law and husband Stephanie and Axle Hilden of Texas City; her brother-in-law and wife John and Wendy Russo of Texas City; her sister-in-law and husband Donna and Jim Svoboda of Lumberton; her brother-in-law and wife Mark and Tammy Russo of Texas City, and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A mass and celebration of her life was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Texas City with Rev. Thomas Ponzini officiating on Saturday, December 22, 2007.
